Resolved IE8 problems with Simple Adblock at boot up

I'm back in the bronze age with Win XP. I use both IE8 and Chrome as browsers and have an interesting malfunction when IE8 starts up first thing in the morning.

I usually boot up everything in the start menu but keep the browsers on their own desktop icons. After boot, I open the Norton "Vault" then start Chrome. After scanning through the sites of immediate interest, I then start IE8, which I use because there are a few things I access that require some version of IE.

Almost every time I start IE 8 that first time after boot-up, it comes up with the message "IE has encountered a problem and must shut down" and does so. The report (which I've long ago quit forwarding to MS) lists Simple Adblock as the reason for IE8's failure to start.

I can go back and start it again from the desk top icon and it's fine the rest of the day.

I have sent the report to MS a few times, without any response Since it's a daily occurrence, I don't see the point in repeatedly sending it.

Does anyone have an idea about this issue? It's a minor annoyance, one of many that IE8 suffers from, but I'm not in a position to upgrade hardware and software to later versions at present. Maybe next spring, I'll be able to get DW and myself each a new computer with at least Win 7 (8, 9, 10, or whatever by then) and a lot more power, but we're stuck with what we have for the present.

Change your home page. There could be something on the site that IE doesn't like.

Unfortunately, Steve, I need IE for a couple of sites that don't accept any other browsers. I use Google Chrome for most things.

I might try not starting it until I actually need to use it and maybe I'll inundate Microsoft with reports by sending one every time it fails.

Sorry, Steve, I misinterpreted your reply.

I'm using the same Comcast home page on both Google Chrome and IE8 and have used it on IE8 for at least 6 years. Every time IE first boots up, I get the "IE has encountered a problem" message. I can restart it immediately after it shuts down and it works fine all day. Have no problems whatever with the Comcast home page on Chrome, and it runs at least 5 times faster than it does on IE8.

I guess I'll just live with it and use IE as little as possible. I will send a report to MS every time it craps out. Maybe I'll get someone's attention, but I'm not holding my breath.

BTW, I don't have Simple Adblock on Chrome, and that's what seems to be getting IE ticked off.

I know Adblock is not a MS program, but IE is, and it's IE that gets its knickers in a twist. I would expect some kind of response from MS giving me reasons for the incompatibility. As I said, I use IE as little as possible, much preferring Google Chrome.

So what you're saying is that every time some Tom, Dick, Harry or Sue throws some little new or updated add-on out on the internet for the world to use, Microsoft must immediately go about testing it to make sure it works perfectly with Internet Explorer ... and if it doesn't, set about figuring out exactly why, hiring programmers to alter Internet Explorer so that it will work perfectly, and then get this updated version out to everyone around the entire planet?

    R-i-g-h-t.

Disable AdBlock in IE and see what happens.

I'll just put up with it and minimize my use of IE. I got so flooded with ads on IE, they were making it run very slowly. That's why I got Simple Adblock in the first place. Not using IE is no great hardship.

I would have at least expected a response from MS when they get an error report every morning, even if it's to tell me to quit being a bloody nuisance. Maybe IE8 is so old history that nobody's even watching out for things.

I use IE and have NO problems with ads. Never have had any. You have something on your PC that is causing this. My suggestion would be head over to the Malware section and post what is asked.
