For the past few days, each time the computer is started from cold and Windows 7 64 bit has installed, the mouse pointer freezes. Freeze lasta minute or so, then works normally. What can be causing this freeze? any assistance is most appreciated.

SR Jones, thank you for reply. No new software or programs installed around this time. However the bootup was and still is very slow to complete and I did a restore in the hope it would clear up, however no improvement in this area. I have however, installed a new 3TB hard drive at time in question, that proved a night mare to be recognised by the Windows 7 6-bit installed in my computer, this is no longer the case, but other HD do take a time to be made current..

Evan, thanks for suggestion. I tried option clean boot with no improvement.
I tried Start> msconfig>General> Startup selection> and selected - normal startup as to selected startup. Mouse arrow still freezes at startup for several seconds, regains normall function. I notice also that clicking software icons now takes longer response time than before.

Does the mouse freeze if you boot up the computer in Safe Mode?

Yes it did. I carried out a further restore, using an April 2013 backup. At present the pointer is acting notmally, but may have to contact you again. Thanki you for assistance.

Error has returned, pointer and all desktop content freezes for a minute at every cold bootup. I added a new 3TB USB3 hard drive at around the same time error was noticed. New HD is plugged into the normal USB 2 socket as the added USB 3 card fitted fails to recognised the 3TB HD.

rsinfo, thanks for your reply. Before installing new HD, did not experience error. I now tried a new Sweex 4 hub USB, attaching all USB 2 HD to this Hub and again tried connecting the new USB 3 to installed USB 3 internal card.
On reconnecting all appliances to appropriate USB hubs, error is not appearing but I will await several boot ups to ensure error has been eliminated.

Good. Everything points to your external HD as the cause.

Does it has external power supply or draws power from USB only ? If its USB only, maybe the USB ports are not able to supply the required power.

Yes, external USB 3 HD has a separate low powered transformer that connects to HD socket. A USB cable connects HD to USB 3 socket fitted in computer. Thank you.
