Problem: I have a ASUS DRW-241ST DVD -RW drive attached to my Win 7 computer.
1]Drive shows up in BIOS (bootup) page when booting.
2]Shows up in "Device mgr "but with yellow esclamation points.
3]Don't show up in "My Computer "
4]Win 7 install disc will load and work from drive when booting from a CD/DVD.
5]Have installed new drivers from ASUS.
6]Have edited the reg to delete upper and lower filters (no lower filter is shown).
7]Above is from MS..Also run MS "Fix It ".
8]Drive works properly on a HDD with a new install of windows.
9]Erro code 19 pops under drive properties.

I'm certain it is a reg problem but no idea on how to repair.
Is there a method of reinstalling Win7 w/o losing all installed Programs??

Thanks for any suggestions or cure..

What? Did you mean that drive works fine in a different computer?

There is still some confusion, I am afraid, on your part that is confusing me. Understand "HDD" stands for Hard Disk Drive. So you are saying the drive works on a drive, which does not make sense.

If you are suggesting you have a dual boot setup, then you need drivers installed for both operating systems.

    DVD not working

    Hi Bill,
    Sorry for the confusion..
I have a 1 GB Hard Drive that has a running install of windows 7 on it.
When I boot from this drive the optical drive works ok..I remove this HDD and put my other boot drive in(with all my apps), the optical drive don't work
as stated above(I guess this would be similar to a dual boot system).
This optical drive DID work several weeks ago on my running(apps) system.
    Thanks

Hi ramjet, Your old HD won't have the correct drivers.

What I'm reading from you, is that you have 2 HD's and one has W7 with fresh instal on one.
Has the other HD with your 'apps' on it, come from the same computer?
If you have renewed your comp, this HD with apps won't boot.

    Have a look here:http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

I recently had a similar problem and used Hirens Boot CD to enable access to drives. There are a lot of useful tools in this software.
You Download an ISO and burn to disc. Neil.

You still need the correct drivers for the OS that is installed on the 2nd drive.

Yes Bill, but Hirens enabled me to boot up and instal the necessary drivers. Neil.

    HDD not working

    Hi to All..

I think there is a mis understanding of my problem..I'll try to explain:

    1) Computer #1: HDD #1, Win 7 ultimate..This is the computer I use everyday with all my programs.
It has a ASUS optical DVD R/W drive on it.. This drive did work, but not now.

    2) I have another HDD #2 that has Win 7 ultimate on it.. I just switched to this drive to eliminate the possibility that the ASUS drive was bad HW wise...It was NOT..I could read and write to it OK.

    3) Everything I have tried is in my original post..

    4) I just want to get Computer #1, HDD #1 working as it once did.

I hope everyone can understand the above jibberish<g>.

    DVD Drive not showing up

    A Little/Lot more information:

I've tried 3 other optical drives in this computer...All three give me the code 19 error when clicking on properties while the drive is hi lighted in the
    Device Manager..
    Here is the code:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) "

Anyone have any solutions (anything other than a fresh install).?

Have you un-installed your Asus DVD completely?
Do you have a Disc with the Asus DVD Drivers on it?

[Shows up in "Device mgr "but with yellow esclamation points.]

It sounds like something is corrupted - so I would Remove it completely and then instal from the Disc and see if it corrects your problem. Neil.

    Hi ramjet,
It definitely sounds as though your #1 HDD is corrupted in the Registry.

Did you follow my link in Post #2?
Did you download and run both of the programs?
    What was the result?
Have you tried a System Restore?
    Have you run sfc /scannow?

Because your optical drive works on your #2 HDD - the drive must be OK. Neil.

    ASUS DVD not showing up

    AdditionHi Neil,
Yep..did all..The fixcleaner ran, fixed some things but no joy with the ASUS.

Drivercleaner found a couple of drivers bad but nothing about the DVD..
    Fixed anyhow.

Have run System restore back to my oldest point..no help.

Yep..I know it is in the registry but no idea how to repair it..

BTW, also have run several registery cleanin programs.
    Thanks

    ASUS not showing up

Finally got this drive working..In a MS post I saw how to look at
    "hidden" entries in Device Mgr.
I found 12 entries for a CD drive and deleted all.
I then run MS Fix it and lo and behold, my DVD worked..
    Thanks to all who helped.

Nice to see you got it sorted. Thanks for Posting your "Fixes" they will probably help others.
I would be wary using Registry cleaners as most guys here will tell you to avoid them like poison. More problems have been encountered with cleaners than you could wave a stick at. Cheers Neil.
