I have come across a problem with a client computer. It is one of those Lenovo All-In-One PC's where everything is in the monitor.

If a cold boot is performed the computer logs in to Windows but the printer is gone when in reality it is installed. Once a restart is performed then it appears and everything is normal for the rest of the day,

    What gives?

I should mention 2 things. The printer is not local but a network printer and I am noticing that the connection icon in the tray shows the yellow exclamation showing an error but the machine is connected to network and internet as I tested it myself.

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this as it is very strange. First time I come across this.

    Thanks,

    Victor

I should also mention that Windows 7 Home Premium is installed and the rest of the machines on the network contain Windows 7 Pro. The Lenovo is model 77452SU

You might give some like this a try:
    1. Copy and paste the following code into Notepad

      Code:
      @echo off
      net stop spooler
      ping -n 15 127.0.0.1 > nul
      net start spooler
      exit

      and save it as C:\Windows\spooler.bat

    2. Create a shortcut to C:\Windows\spooler.bat in the users Start>All Programs>Startup folder.
Note: The "15" in the line starting with "ping" is the number of seconds to wait before restarting the spooler. (To give the network time to come up).

The possible reason this occurs is that the computer and printer are using dynamic IP addresses. ALL home office and business LANs should use static IP addresses for stationary computers and printers.

As mentioned above, the printer spooler service may be starting prior to the computer receiving a dynamic IP address from the router. If the printer has a dynamic IP address then Windows must always update the printer's IP address and associate it with the spooler service.

If use static IP addresses there will be no lag when the networking services start and load. Unlike Unix/Linux, Windows systems load networking services last, after login, when in fact, they really should load earlier and run even if no one has logged in.

The reason I did not put in a Static IP is because the other 2 PC's do not have it and they print just fine although there are 2 more printers besides this particular one.

Sorry I should mention that the 2 other printers are local to their machines if I recall

Sounds to me like when this particular computer is booting up. it is trying to connect to the network printer before it even finishes getting fully attached to the network.

You guys should come to my office.... I can't convince the boss that when she brings in her lappy in hibernate mode from home, that finding our networked printers ain't gonna happen till she reboots:rolleyes:

I have not gone back to this office so perhaps they are dealing with it or got it fixed.

    Thanks for the advice though..
