    Hi,

You guys have been great helping me in the past with virus issues so I thought I'd reach out before returning a computer.

I can not find a driver for a 64 bit win 7 computer. The printer is a sharp al1641 cs. Sharp has no timetable for driver releases. On two sites people made refrences to third party printer drivers and/or generic drivers. I don't want or need the scan feature, just simple printing.

The printer is on a network so I can't get a new printer.

If I'm out of luck, that's ok. Just waned to check before going to the trouble of returning product.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Bill

    Been there.

First off, you want to have fun. Choose
    printers and faxes
    al 1641 cs
    windows
    7

nothing shows. I found a workaround to it and located the drivers, but sadly nothing for 64 bit. When I run the exe they do have for 7 I get an error that states an unsupported operating system.

Ah I see. You downloaded this zip file correct?

Lets see if Windows already includes the drivers for your printer.

Click Start< Devices and printers. Click on Add printer, then click on Add a local printer. Click on Update drivers and Windows 7 will update it's printer driver list.

See if your Sharp al1641 cs is listed under the Sharp category. If the model is listed, choose it, to install the driver and it should be installed without any problems.

If it is not listed then the printer may not be compatible with Windows 7 64-bit systems. How old is the printer?

    Hi
No luck. I'd like to try and manual install the driver for the 32 bit driver. Is there a way to get it out of the zip file or is the .exe file the only way to get it installed?

If its a 32-bit driver then its not compatible with the 64-bit architecture.

Even if you could install the driver manually, chances are the printer will not function properly since you are running the 64-bit version of Windows 7. I would try contacting Sharp's support for the printer and asking them if there is a 64-bit driver available to install.

Sharp no longer provides support for that model so on 64-bit you are SOL.

That model is at least 9 years old. Get a new printer.

    Thanks Arie,

I may just return computer and get a 32 bit. The printer is old but is super efficient. I'll look at my options. Thanks a lot for the help (as always).

He probably has, but even if he didn't, that driver is of no use, as it does not support 64-bit Windows 7.

Sharp only has a 32-bit driver available.
