I've just reinstalled Windows XP and installed all the Windows updates. Everything is working fine except for this problem with Internet Explorer. It hangs for two minutes when I open my facebook page.

I've run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and deleted any spyware. My system appears to be clean.

Can anyone please suggest some solutions that might solve this problem?

    Thank you,

    bellisimo

What happens when you start IE with no Add-ons?

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

    Hi Evan,

I did as you suggested and it hasn't solved the problem.

Only two minutes? Yours is a lot faster than mine. Sometimes mine hangs up for 6 or 7 minutes. I've quit using IE for everything that I can get to through Chrome, which runs 5 to 10 times faster. There are just a couple of MS sites that won't accept any other browser than IE.

I can't upgrade beyond IE8 because I still run Win XP.

    Hi fdamp,

Thanks. I've tried both Chrome and Safari and neither is any faster than IE8.

At first, I thought it must be something with facebook, but I have a macbook pro and facebook runs perfectly on it. Must be a bug of some kind.

If it only happens on the facebook website then it could be a problem on their end.

You could try downloading and running TCP Optimizer and see if that program helps to speed up the loading of webpages.

    Thanks Evan,

I tried your suggestion and it hasn't made a difference. It's funny that I'm not having any other problems with my computer, but I don't think it's a facebook issue because facebook is fine on my macbook.

    Hi Evan,

I think maybe I spoke too soon. It's working fine now and the only reason I can think of is that the TCP Optimizer must have done the trick.

    Thanks again,

Could be an add-on that is causing the problem. Since you tried with out ad-ons and it worked you will have to disable one by one to find the culprit. I had to do this before and it worked for me.

    Thanks flynempire,

I thought it was working properly again but it seems I was wrong. How do you disable facebook add-ons? I'll try it.

    Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-Ons
In there you can enable or disable

    Hi again, flynempire,

Okay, I couldn't find any ad-ons that seemed to be specific to facebook. I had an Adobe one and a couple of Bing ones and one or two Microsoft ad-ons. And I'm still having the problem.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo

    Hi again,

I tried resetting Internet Explorer's settings again, and this time it worked. I'm now going to mark this thread resolved.

    Thanks again everyone,
