After I installed AdAware Plus, I ran a scan for adware, and it didn't find any. I've been running AdWatch eversince with the latest ref file installed. Today out of curiosity I ran another scan and it found 34 adware components installed in my cookies. AdWatch seemed like it was blocking all this adware, even listed what it blocked in its little window. So where did these 34 components come from? I have been running it continuously every time I go online since it was installed 2 days ago.

    Hi Shadowhawk,
I'm one of the guardian angels when it comes to my computer and Adaware stuff. But like everything else, you learn something every day. This time however, I'm not sure what you saw on your cookie list that I'm apparently not seeing on mine (and I'm sure something is there) but I need you to a little more specific on your findings so I can see if they are haunting mine. Or atleast the method you used to determine that they were adware ? Thanks...

Sorry, I didn't pay attention to what they were. I just deleted them. I'll make a note next time. I just checked it, and it's mostly stuff from Hitbox and Fastclick. It also blocked a cookie from windowsbbs.com.

I also have ad-watch and it did a pretty good job, but I was
turned on to a excellent little freeware by another BBS member
and have been using it ever since. Actually, I rarely use ad-watch
anymore, because this program catches all cookies.

The program is called CookieWall: www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/cookie.htm

Also, try this. I ran it the other day and it found stuff that
    ad-aware didn't: www.webattack.com/get/spybot.shtml

    :)

    webattack awesome

Webattack seems to be quite an awesome program. It found a ton of stuff that ad-aware missed. And ad-aware is an excellent product. So far after removal of identified items everything seems to work. Lets hope.
Of course to anyone who wonders why bother the offending spyware is responible for much or your spam , banner ads etc.
B.T.W. there is a free signature file for ad-aware called refupdate. It is available free at www.downloads.com . Of course
you can always reinstall the most current version of ad-aware
if you want to keep current. The only thing to watch with refupdate is that you may have to correctly specify the correct
    directory where ad-aware resides.
And I remember when you had to pay like a taxi-meter for
on-line time. How things have changed. And it was rather
    very expensive too.
    :p

    install webattack

One problem maybe someone can help me.
I download webattack, install and run the program. I select
to install an icon on my start menu.
However the program will run but not install itself. I have selected the install program. Any ideas ?

    same problems with install

I had the same problems with install. In the end you can unzip the program and link to your start menu or whatever manually
    ;)
