    Hi all,

I haven't used Outlook express6 for quite a number of years. I had something I saved with an .eml extension and I wanted to see what it was. I opened Outlook and in the left window under Contacts, there's about a hundred e-mail addresses I've never heard of\seen before and don't know.

I was able to delete most of them, but there's still 44 that will not delete, no matter what I do.

How do I get rid of them and does anyone know why or how they got there?

What happens/doesn't happen when you try to remove them?

This may be the way it happened ...

Let's say you have the Outlook Express option "Automatically Put People I Reply to in My Address Book" set to "Enabled ". One of your friends sends an email out to everyone they know, including you. You do a Reply All and Outlook Express immediately adds everyone's email address that was in the original email to your Address Book.

Solution: "Disable" the "Automatically Put People I Reply to in My Address Book" option.

    Hi Doc,

The only time I've used Outlook is when I get an e-mail from someone with the ".eml" attachment extension: and then I save it to the Desktop and open it with Outlook.

Honestly, some of these addresses have a ".uk ", or ".ru" in them and I never hit "reply to all ". Even back in 19 and 96 when I had Juno 1.49 I never did a reply to all. And I've never had "save address(es) to Address Book.

I suppose I'll have to uninstall and reinstall to get rid of them.

    Oh, well.

I believe the ".eml" extension is used by Outlook Express, not Outlook.

In Outlook Express, do you have the option "Automatically Put People I Reply to in My Address Book" set to "Enabled "?

    Hi Doc,

Nope! Never have and I seriously doubt I ever will — and I've never replied or done anything (except delete) an e-mail with a ".ru" or ".uk" suffix.
