Mouse loses power when resuming from sleep

I've done some searching and found numerous threads reporting this problem, but none of the solutions has worked for me.

I use a USB wireless mouse with my laptop, and I hibernate the laptop often to save energy. On rare occasions, when resuming from hibernation, the mouse doesn't work: the device is powered on, and I can tell the computer recognizes it because the touchpad remains disabled, but moving the mouse doesn't move the cursor. Removing and reinserting the USB dongle makes the mouse functional again, but it's an annoyance. How can I force the mouse to always work when resuming?

The platform is 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. The mouse is a Logitech M525. USB Selective Suspend is disabled. In Device Manager, none of my USB controllers supports the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ", so I can't disable that. The entry "HID-compliant mouse" does include that option, but it is grayed out in the unchecked state. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for all of my USB controllers and the mouse, and updated to the latest BIOS for my motherboard. I have found no options in BIOS that would be related to this issue.

    What do you think?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I doubt that the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option is the cause here, but note that the option is shown under the Properties of the Root Hubs - not the USB Controllers. Worth checking there.

Have you tried using another USB port?

I could be wrong here, but I have a feeling that this could be Windows related.
My Laptop which is running Win 7 has occasionally a somewhat similar hic-up with my Blue-Tooth Laser Mouse, when coming out of Hibernation a message might come up telling me of a issue of not being able to restore control of the blue-tooth mouse, but the mouse will always come back on after a few seconds even before the message goes off.
Maybe once or twice in 12 month I have to switch the power on the mouse off and then turn on again in order to recognize it again.
    No big deal though.

Sorry; what I meant is that none of the devices of type "USB controller ", including the root hubs, supports that power management option.

The linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article, unfortunately, suggests solutions that either haven't worked or are irrelevant. (I don't use a docking station or USB hub, etc.)

The laptop has two sets of USB ports, one pair each on the right and left faces. I've been using those on the right. I'll try the left side. If the problem recurs, it may be a few days from now.

Did you try increasing the value for the AdditionalCriticalWorkerThreads registry entry?

    --

Sometimes this problem occurs because the Plug and Play operation that is performed when the computer resumes from sleep or hibernation does not correctly recognize the USB devices or the power saving settings that are enabled. When the computer is connected to two or more USB device and resumes from sleep or hibernation, multiple and concurrent Plug and Play processes are required. In this scenario, sometimes the Plug and Play operation does not correctly recognize all of the USB devices that are connected. Therefore, the USB devices may not function correctly.

A Plug and Play operation may also not correctly recognize a USB device if a device does not fully support hibernation or sleep power states.

I've had the AdditionalCriticalWorkerThreads entry set to 2, but still the mouse occasionally fails to move the cursor when resuming. I also used one of the ports on the left side of the computer and had the same problem.

I'll try setting the entry to 8.
