Screen Savers normally wait for the last drive activity to cease and then they start counting down to some pre-set interval, after which they initiate.

Perhaps you have some drive activity that you aren't aware of that may be delaying the screensaver.

Get Ad-Aware and SpyBot. Run them to clear your drive of all malwares. That will likely cure your problem but if it doesn't, post back and we'll go from there.

    :)

I have done above. Got rid of many spy cookies & programs. Main culprit Gator. Many, many fewer pop ups on Internet. Gained 10% on memory after deleting 71 culprilts. THANK YOU Zephr.

    ScreenSavers still intermitted @ times.

Hi Nickhm, and thanks for the feedback. It sounds like you have made some progress although perhaps not in the exact area you wanted. Those two utilities are nice to have anyway.

Now you need to consider some other possibilities. A couple of things come to mind; your AV may be scanning the drive and causing the busy signal for the Screensaver or there is a possibility that some software has been set to check for updates without your input. Those are a couple of common things that may cause your problem. Then of course there is always the possibility that the Screensaver you're using isn't XP compatible.

There are many other reasons so you'll have to stay alert to drive activity, watch the led, and you'll finally track it down. It can be something as simple as a utility you have running that checks the mail periodically or perhaps some software trying to check for updates and the site isn't available, so it keeps retrying thereby producing the busy signal for the Screensaver.

Hang in there, you'll get it eventually!

    Cheers. :)
