Instead of Windows XP launching, the following message (blue screen) appeared. The PC is otherwise functional.
    Message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Disable to uninstall any anti-virus, disk fragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruptions and then restart your computer.

    Technical Information:

    Stop: 0X00000024 (0X00190203, 0X86157670, 0XX0000102, 0X00000000)

Unable to launch windows in Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking, Safe Mode With Command Prompt, Start Windows Normally or Last Know Good Configuration.

There is no anti-virus, disk fragmentation or backup utilities to uninstall and the hard drive is new. Even so, how would I follow the steps outlined without access to windows? Expert advice would be greatly appreciated. ;)

    PC Model: HP m7300e Desktop
CPU Type: AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+
    Hard Drive: WD 1T (new)

Hi satnamcat. Here is a little bit of information about your BSOD:

Since you can't boot into Windows XP at all do you have a Windows XP CD that you can use to boot into the recovery console?

No. If that's the only way in, where can I obtain one?

Do you have a Windows XP CD that you can borrow from a friend or family member?

If you can't get a Windows XP CD then download the Windows XP Recovery Console ISO file from here.

Then download and run Active ISO Burner to burn the ISO file to a CD.

After that is done let me know and we will go from there.

Ok before we proceed, the Windows XP CD has Windows XP Service Pack 3 on it already correct?

Ok, follow these steps to repair your system:

    1. Boot from your Windows XP CD. When you boot from the CD you should see an option that says Press R to boot into the recovery console. When you see that option press R.
    2. Once you boot into the recovery console it will ask you which Windows installation you wish to log into.
    3. Type 1 and hit enter.
    4. Now the recovery console will ask you to type the administrator password. If you don't have a password then leave the line blank otherwise type the password in and hit enter.
    5. Next, type the following commands and hit enter after each one.

    fixboot
    fixmbr
    chkdsk /r

    6. You may be asked to confirm an action after typing in the commands. Type Y to confirm the action if you are asked. After check disk has finished checking your hard drive, type exit and hit enter to quit setup. Hopefully the computer will now boot.

I chose Recovery from several options. At the bottom of the page I could chose F2 for Automated System Recovery (ASR) or F6 to install a third party SCIS or RAID driver. I wasn't asked which Windows installation I desired to log into. When the C:\> prompt appeared I typed fixboot, fixmbr and chkdsk/r (all invalid). The following text appeared: the target partition is C:. Are you sure you want to write a new boot sector to the partition C:? (Please advise).

Noteworthing: When I chose to set up Windows XP via ASR, the following text appeared: Windows XP has not been installed on this computer. And from the option Set Up Windows XP I received the following: Setup cannot find the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA). Setup cannot continue.

I was also unable to "Launch the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows ", twice. Nothing happened until I removed the CD at which time the following messages appeared: 1st: The file arcm_x86.SY_ is corrupted. 2nd: The file nvatabus.SY_ is corrupted.

Ok lets take the Ultimate Boot CD out of the equation here. I haven't used it and therefore I am not familiar with the options that are available on it. I always just use a Windows XP CD to repair a Windows XP system. Follow the instructions in post #4 to download the Windows XP recovery console iso file and burn it to a seperate CD.

Then once you boot from the Windows XP recovery disk, you will be able to follow the instructions in my last post.

Windows cannot open this file: File: rc.iso To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it... Unable to find the appropriate program using the Web service or selecting the program from a list. Please advise.

You need to use Active ISO Burner to burn the ISO file to a new CD.

The ISO CD set up is exactly the same as the Emergency Recovery Boot disk minus the list of additional options.

    Outcome:

    C:\> fixboot
FIXBOOT cannot find the system drive, or the drive specified is not valid.

    C:\> fixmbr
This computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master boot record.
FIXMBR may damage your partition tables if you proceed.
This could cause all the partitions on the current hard disk to become inaccessible.
If you are not having problems accessing your drive, do not continue.
Are you sure you want to write a new MBR?

    C:\> chkdsk /r
The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.

It doesn't matter if its new or not. Hard drives can fail at any time and if you are having these problems with the drive then you may be able to RMA the drive or get a refund on it and get a different drive.

When did you get the hard drive?

A new hard drive (upleveled from a Seagate 250GB to a WD1TB) and Windows XP was installed September last.

I'll use the SeaTools for DOS CD to verify and let you know.
