My computer ran out of battery when applying a SP1 update and now cant get past the startup screen. It reads fatal error C0000034 applying update 306 of 106871(_00000...) I tried to do a system restore but it only gives me one point to restore from(earlier today) and after I do that it gives me an error message about a file that couldn't be restored and then goes to boot up and the same error message occurs at the startup screen. I've also tried the startup repair which does nothing and sends me to the hp recovery manager. I'm stumped at this point any help would be appreciated.

    I have a pavilion dm4-1065dx

Just to clarify when I do the system restore it says: "system restore failed to extract the file
(D:\Windows\winsxs\Backup\AM217B7~.MAN) from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore." It prompts me to try a different restore point but there's only one available and have already clicked show more restore points to no avail.

Yeah I tried that and it said the path couldn't be found and opened the notepad up. I rebooted after this and the same fatal error message came up. I also tried to run the last good configuration to no avail. I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

If you mistype anything in DOS it won't work. If you mistyped the path, it won't work.

    Double check.

I expect the file pending.xml should be there, if SP1 installation was running (?)

Read the instructions, you need to modify that file.
