    Hi,
I've recently tried to install a firewire pci Belkin card on my windows 7 operating system, so I can use my digicam, and as soon as I switch on it starts searching for available drivers. That's as far as it goes. It keeps searching forever and the computer freezes. The only way to switch off is by unplugging from the wall! I used to be able to use my digicam with my previous o.s. Vista. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Is there a way I can use my digicam again, perhaps by installing new drivers? I don't seem to find an answer in specialised forums. I'm almost certain that there must be a solution, but where to find it?

    Thanks

    Eddie

Did it come with a driver cd and did you install it before hooking the card up?

Did you look on Belkin's web site for newer drivers?

    Thanks for your interest.
It did not come with a driver. I inserted the card and it started to look for drivers which it never found.
I've been to Belkins web site and it has no drivers for this card. I only bought it last week.
Doesn't Windows 7 come with any type of generic drivers for firewire?

    Regards

    Eddie

    Belkin support is great (not!)

This is what you get when searching on F5U502 and clicking the link I lost my installation CD, how do I download the drivers / software?

    http://www.belkin.com/uk/support-article?rnId=5106

You'll need to get a driver from them...

I doubt that card is compatible with Windows 7.

    Thanks for this.
I didn't know this card was so old! I just bought it last week from Amazon.
I've tried the work-around you suggest but when I go to Device Manager the IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller is nowhere to be seen. In other words, it doesn't exist!
Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Thanks for your help.
I'll try a few more times to make it work. If not................... straight to the bin!

In Device Manage, any exclamations for unknown hardware?
Verify the card is fully inserted in the PCI slot. Boot and check Device Manager.

If have a free PCI slot, put the card in a different slot and when boot, Windows should display the "new hardware found" bubble. Let Windows install it and then re-check Device manager.

I've inserted the card in a different pci slot. After about 10 minutes it comes up with failed installing drivers. During these 10 minutes the screen freezes and nothing else works, i.e. neither mouse nor keyboard. I restart the computer normally after these 10 minutes. I go to device manager and I can see under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers, Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. It shows 32 instances of it! 30 with the exclamation and 2 without. The first message says : This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) The second message says : This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
On the one with no exclamation mark it says : This device is working properly.

I will now delete the 30 with the exclamation mark and see what happens.

Any further ideas or shall I buy a new card which is compatible with Windows 7? If I can find one!

    Regards

    Eddie

Remove all instances of the device, reboot. Then try the workaround I linked to above (legacy driver).

I've cleaned everything, rebooted and tried with the workaround you suggested. It started all over again. Windows will just not install the driver for this card. It freezes and after about 10 minutes it starts again but everything very very slow and the pci card is still not usable.
I've ordered a new one form e-bay. This time it's a pci express card which hopefully will solve my problem. I'll keep you informed of the outcome.
    Thanks for being so helpful.

    Regards

After trying everything, almost, I decided to buy another card. As mentioned before I bought a pci express firewire card. I can now use my digicam as before with the previous operating system. So I would say that the problem is resolved. Thanks to all who in any way tried to help.

    Regards
