Hi cbumpkin. Download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack Standard.

This collection of codecs will allow Windows Media Player to play all common video and audio file formats as well as enable DVD playback on your computer.

I downloaded the k-lite cordec pack standard and it won't recognise the music file extension. The music was downloades from You Tube toa flash drive with the file extension mht. how do I get the media player to accept this extension or how do i change the file extenson? I mesed up!
pleas checked the bottomof this reply for more info. I am 79 years old an don' know much bout computers. I appreciate your help you have solved several of my problems

I down loaded K-Lite Cordec Standard. it still will no accept the music files. I down loaded about 150 songs from You Tube to a flash drive with the file extension MHT. How do I get the media player to accept this file extension or how do I change all the extensions? Also How do I eliminate the Administrator on the origional media player? I have no idea how the administeator deal got installed since I am the only on with access to the computor.

When you downloaded those youtube videos the .MHT file extension is not used by Windows Media Player. The .MHT file extension is a web page archive extension. Its opened by Internet browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer.
I don't know how you downloaded those youtube videos but they should be either in an AVI file format or an MP3 format if its a music file. That way you won't have to deal with converting the files afterwards and you can play them using Windows Media Player. Use this website to download youtube videos, IXCONVERTER.

On the IXConverter website, you can specify what file type you want the video converted to.

I am not sure what you are asking here. Are you logged on as an administrator? Are you getting an error message when you open Windows Media Player complaining about permission issues?

I downloaded from you tube by going to the search line an typing in an artist name the down load came up with a mht file extension and I put on a flash drive to save hard drive space. I can play it back off the flash drive but could no get win. media player 10 to put it in the library to make a play list. they meaia player classic will keep everthing
but so far icang get it tomake an automatic playlist. as far as the administrator problem it developed at the same timthat the media 10 codex dissapeared. I am the ony only one with access to this computer. now when i try to open media player 10 a dropdown says see administrator the dropdown has a line for a pass word but I have not put a password in neither did I as for an admininstrator for the program therfore it has Me blocked from that program. I have scaned for malware and viruses

Since you are only using Windows Media Player 10, I would recommend that you download and install Windows Media Player 11.

See if that helps to resolve that error message.

Windows Media Player 11 already includes the capability to create an automatic playlist for your music. You don't need to use Windows Media Player classic.
