    I have an ACER laptop that came preloaded with Windows 8. There is only a Windows sticker on the bottom and no COA. My understanding is that the COA Key is embedded in the BIOS now.

    Suddenly on start up I am getting a light blues screen (not a BSOD)
    In the BIOS settings I changed the Boot Mode to Legacy BIOS (from UEFI), set the CDROM to first boot device and inserted the system disk that I obtained from ACER but it now on startup it says
    ALT - F10 (or any other combination will not access the recovery partition.

    Anyone have any ideas how I might get around this problem to reinstall Win8?

    Thanks

    Since it's still under warranty, return it for a refund or an exchange.

    Thanks, I was hoping I could avoid losing it for a couple of weeks if it was software issue

    It's your choice. <-shrug->

    If you're bound and determined to throw your money at defective products however, "man oh man do I have some fantastic deals for you!" ;)

    That very well may be the case but a call to Acer indicated that it was a simple case of restoring the OS. A subsequent call to them has resulted in a RMA number.

    I just thought I would ask a "trusted" source before resorting to the last choice

    Good to hear Acer's taking care of it for you.
