How do I find the author (preferably by e-mail address) from a group of PST files? Unfortunately they are all in the format of Outlook.pst. Is there a free or paid piece of software that anyone knows about that can drill down into the files? Thanks.

PS, It doesn't matter which version of Outlook I am using.

Use Outlook to search the .pst files for the author name ?

Either disconnect from the Internet or ensure that Outlook is not set up to send/receive on opening and/or at a specific time interval.

With Outlook closed locate your .pst file which is associated with Outlook, back it up as a precaution, rename it Outlookold.pst and then copy one of the .pst files you want to search into the same location. Open Outlook and search for author name.

Repeat for other .pst files until you have the info you require, then remove the searched .pst file from Outlook and restore your own by renaming it from Outlookold.pst to Outlook.pst

Why not just open each pst file individually in Outlook which one can do? It still keeps your Outlook PST open but lets you check other pst files. I tried using Microsoft Exchange PST Capture 2.0 but it is set up to view by a server.

That's effectively what I suggested. Then use the search function in Outlook to search for a name.

    Guess you haven't Googled - I found ....

I work with pst files a lot, and a tool I use is PstViewer Pro. I can get a list of the senders and recipients by saving the emails into a CSV file, and then importing it into Excel for analysis.
