We all know the move to more mobile computing has been accelerating for the last few years, so what is your *main* computing device?

Yes, you only are granted one choice on this poll; we are asking specifically for your main computing device.

My main computing device is my desktop PC. I don't have a tablet, a smartphone or a laptop so my desktop PC is what I use to access the Internet and play PC games on.

Same as Evan. Laptop is a learning tool and the smartphones are emergency communication devices. All major work ie. Banking, email and play is on my Desktop PC. Neil.

    Use them most of them

Main device is still the desktop but it is getting old with not enough RAM. Also have a laptop that is running W7 I am using more and more. Wife has an iPad which she likes for most of her computing needs and which we also take when we travel. Nothing like a rounded out computer experience.:D

Don't have a smartphone yet, just a simple "dumb" cell phone that doesn't even have a camera.

Desktop... When I'm "not" sitting down in front of a desktop - I don't want to get emails or do anything else related to computing;)

My boss can't go to the bathroom without her Blackberry:eek:

Life is too short to need to be in constant contact with the rest of the world.

Is a laptop on my desk a desktop? :~)

My desktop died 3 yrs ago, and mobility dictates the smaller form ... still w/8GB mem and 6TB online why bother ... if I ever decide to build a personal cloud perhaps I'll get another dt, meanwhile I'll expend my cash getting the dt's.

Main computing device? The one with a full sized keyboard, mouse and two large monitors. The one that will not fall out of my pocket and get lost or fall into the wrong hands, taking my life with it. The one that helps keep my room warm when it is 12°F outside with 12" of snow.

    Desktop Windows 7:.
I have a netbook, iPad, iPhone and an old Nokia N800, sort of a table,t but not a phone. Use it when on bike at gym in the morning to read any overnight emails. it does an awful lot. Before I ever had a netbook or ipad, would use it for travel for emails and web access. Does an awful lot for what it is. Can use SKYPE and take photos.

Cell Phone mainly for phone calls, with some use of maps when traveling and emails when on day trip. Netbook is still Windows XP and use it just for certain things. Use iPad sometimes at night for searches about things being discussed, follow up emails, overnight travel, and some solitaire games. (Got the iPad Free, which is only reason I have it. )

I definitely prefer Windows based products over Apple products for most things. got stuck in the iPhone mode a while back, (3G) so keeping that for cell phone usage.

I most often turn my desktop off at night before dinner and try to stay away till morning. (I am retired, so all only used for personal things)

    Fully agree with you here!

My use is 95% desktop PC and maybe 5% laptop (when traveling).

Going by the device I use the most it's an iPad - groan as I'm a Windows man through and through. However, the convenience of the iPad is hard to surpass. Just put my 4 digit code in and it's live. Unlike my many Windows machines which take various times to boot and then often flop in updates when I'm in the middle of trying to work on something.

Interesting poll - I have 1x W8DT - 2x W7DT - 1 W8 Laptop all networked for my research, although one W7 DT is 75% dedicated to Lord of The Rings online. I'm in touch with the world maties.. all drives are 1TB or more, and all RAM slots are fully occupied to their max.
Had an interesting situation last week (YUK!) my main W8 machine decided to go on holiday after an MS update. Thanks to the recovery disk I had created I was able to send out the team after it....seems that the W8 didn't like the update waking it up without my say-so; at least that it appears to be??? My office is nice & warm too!!!

For some reason, it didn't appear that my first vote had been recognised, hence the admonition against voting twice.

I would like to add that my wife's computer is an ASUS net-book, and when we go out in the RV, we take that one as our primary device. We transfer the printer to the RV but leave everyting else at home. I figure a 9 year old computer with a CRT monitor and Widows XP isn't going to be a major target for the criminal classes.

Of course, when a 32' x 8'6" white box on wheels, that was parked in the driveway for three months or more, isn't there any more, it's a fairly clear signal that nobody's home. I have a sticker that I put on the window by the door that says "We're retirees and there's nothing in here that you could fence for more than $5 ".

Has to be the desktop for me too, although I find myself using my Androids for more and more each day.
Gadgets are a big thing for me and I`ve got 2 Smartphones and an Android tablet that I use for different things, - the tablet is wired into the computers sound and I use it for my day to day listening, changing to the 2nd desktop when I want to listen to FLAC or APE from my collection (extensive)- its just handy not to have a media player taking up resources when I`m using the flight simulators and I can mix the sound into the simulator effects (like having the radio on when driving).
I also use it as a supplementary map display with FSX.
I deal with most of my E-mails on my phones and use them as organisers too & of course they`re portable, its also useful having phone texts and E-mails on the same device.
The phones are useful because of their many sensors too - the GPS is great for the car and I use many of the android apps for other stuff (audio Spectrum analysers, Wifi field strength meters, Electromagnetic field detectors - theres a lot of different applications).
