    Hi all,

My friend has SeaMonkey 2.91. When he starts it a "FireFox web browser - plugin check & update" tab opens.

How do I get rid of this tab opening? The "hide tab . . . " is checked and "Software install" is unchecked (both add-ons and SeaMonkey). There is no FireFox anywhere on his system.

Any ideas as to how to get rid of this?

The latest stable version of SeaMonkey is 2.15.2. I see references to v2.19 on Google, but it's not clear whether that's a beta edition or something else. Is the explanation for his problem contained in that version, or is "2.91" a typo?

    Hi Bobbo,

Nope! When I click "help - about SeaMonkey" it said v. 2.91.

I just checked again and it says, "SeaMonkey version 2.9.1 "

Why is it reporting this version? Any ideas?

TBH if I were you I would uninstall SeaMonkey, download the latest version, and then check again...

As regard to your issue, I, myself, have never come across this problem. Maybe try again after uninstall/install?

I've never had the problem, either, but that version of SM is almost a year old. There have been many upgrades and updates since then. I also suggest you try an update, but deleting that old version would also delete e-mails, the custom dictionary, and whatever configuration settings the computer's owner may want to keep. Try a simple update first and see if that eliminates the problem. Then if it doesn't, you can delete the old one and get the latest version. That should be a total fix.

I found out that there was a version of FireFox his daughter downloaded. And, when he was setting up his DSL, the tech had him open FF and not IE (like they usually do).

I had him uninstall FF from the Control Panel and that left him with the Mozilla add-ons tab when opening.

Now that I have it and cloned to a larger HDD, I did an XP Repair Install and it appears that the FF tab has finally gone away, I think. I'll find out tomorrow when I run his computer again.

Which leaves me wondering what in FF got integrated into SeaMonkey that it gives the version as 2.9.1?

    Who knows?!

So, are you saying that SeaMonkey is displaying the correct version now?

No. It still says v. 2.9.1. Although when I open Preferences, it's the same Options as SeaMonkey v. 1.1.8.

    ??????????????

Well, I misspoke myself. The FF addons tab keeps coming up whenever I start SeaMonkey.

Yes. There's nothing FF anywhere I can find. I haven't looked in the Registry, though.

Try using Revo uninstaller and CCleaner to clear up any surplus cr@p you have in your system and registry.

TBH I'm totally lost in this SeaMonkey fiasco, there seems to be no logical reason that it is doing what it's doing... Hope you solve your problem, but, for now, I'll keep an eye on this thread, but 'I'm out'

I think I fixed the problem by unchecking all update stuff and I found in FoxIt Reader (of all things) that it was set to automatically update so I unchecked it. Doing that seems to have solved the problem — I hope.

??? Can't see how that could be related... But anyhow thanks for letting us know what you did to solve your problem.
