my old laptop crashed recently, so i had the harddrive taken out and made into an external harddrive with all my data on it. when i plugged it into another laptop, it worked perfectly, i opened it up and looked through all my files and everything.

now i have a new laptop here, and when i plug in the external harddrive it opens and i have all my folders in front of me.. but they are shortcuts, such as G:\Users\ and when i open it, it tells me the system cannot find the drive specified?

Your external drive has a different drive letter now?

Use Paragon HDM ( Hard disk manager ) to check if the HDD is recognized ; this is more powerfull than windows HDmanager console and if the HD is recognized attribute a letter in the same program ; very very efficient ; if your HD is NOT recognized there , then something in your HARDWARE goes wrong .
