"Reopen last browsing session" greyed out

I'm using Windows 8 and of course, IE10. For whatever reason, I just noticed recently that the "reopen last browsing session" is greyed out. I have not deleted history / history is not deleted on exit from or when closing down the browser.
I've even tried a Reset which again for some weird and wonderful reason, does absolutely nothing. I've done Resets before and everything one has saved i.e. site icons on the menu bar disappear. Not so this time.
Done a complete system scan with Norton 360 / SuperAntiSpyware. Nothing shows up at all as far as viruses.

Anyone who has experienced this and has found a fix for it, let me know if you don't mind. Thanks!

I downloaded the fix and installed. It did nothing for me. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, I've exhausted my meager store of knowledge about Internet Explorer.

I use Firefox and never had a problem with its remembering the setting to reopen the last browsing session. It just does it automatically when I open Firefox.

Hopefully someone else will have the solution.

IE10 remembers the tabs. Also, they are listed if I open a new tab but the "reopen last browsing session" is greyed out for some weird and wonderful reason. Is there someone else who would like to step up to second or third base and reveal the fix for this?

Hi LumberGumRubber. In IE10 Click Tools< Internet Options. Then on the General Tab make sure the Delete browsing history on exit checkbox is unchecked. Then click on the Advanced Tab. Scroll down and under Security make sure the Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed checkbox is unchecked. Then click on Ok and restart IE10 for the changes to take effect.

    See if that works.

Greetings from Ceti Alpha V1. Both the "delete browsing history" and "empty temporary internet files" have been and are unchecked. Thanks for the suggestion though. I still have not got a fix for this - neither can IE10 be reset for whatever reason. If I close down the browser, all the tabs will come up again. But the "reopen last browsing session" is still greyed out. Keep the suggestions coming this way Evan! :)

    • Is Delete browsing history checked in Internet options?
    • Is your browsing history deleted after you close IE? Can be done by running a 3rd party app.
    • Start IE without Add-ons. Does that help?
    • Restart Windows in Safe mode. Does it happen there?

Also one other thing, make sure in IE10 when you click on Tools< Internet Options< General Tab that the option under Startup to Start with home page is selected. If the option to Start with tabs from last session is selected then the Reopen last browsing session option will not work.

Delete browsing history is not checked. Browsing history is not checked to be deleted when closing browser. Done without any addons - didn't do anything to fix the problem.
Never started Windows in Safe Mode. Did finally get IE10 to reset - after rebooting, the "reopen last browsing session" was not greyed out till I used it - once I clicked on it to restore the last session, it was greyed out again.

I have "start with tabs from last session" checked off. When I close down IE10 or reboot the machine, the last session does indeed work. In fact, it's why everything (each tab) comes back up to where I left off.
If I go to "start with homepage" ... then I'll only get the one page. Then I'll have to open up history and get back manually what I left off.

hmmmm. Are the last sessions not already open? Or do the tabs "come up again" going to different sites?

Let's say I have 6 tabs open then I close down the browser. I can even reboot the machine - when I bring up IE10 again, those tabs are saved and come up the way they are supposed to. And they do not come up to different sites but the sites that I'm at to begin with.

So when you bring the browser back up - it's going to the Last Session and thus the reason why the last session button is grayed out...

Where exactly would you like for the last session button to take you;)

It's not where I want the last session to take me at all - that is not the issue. The problem is - why is the "reopen the last session" greyed out at all? Is this what is supposed to be because if it is, then IE 6/7/8/9 and now 10 has been adrift for quite some years.
In other words, "reopen the last session" has never been greyed out before till the last couple months or so on this system. Your furthered suggestion(s) will be appreciate Steve. Thanks!

True for the present - but let's say the computer for whatever reasons shuts down (automatic Windows update) and sometimes when I bring the browser back up again, the tabs are not there. Neither is the "reopen the last session" so consequently, one has to go into "history" to search for those tabs.
Consequently your question is becoming illogical. The "reopen the last session" IS supposed to be there.
I'm finding it only on this computer - so that means something is awry somewhere. I've tried the "reset" and that fixes nothing either.
So obviously, there's no answer for this at the present - especially since it seems to be only on this computer.
Also, one last thing - is the "reopen the last session" also greyed out on your computer ...

Odds are the last session link will work in that case... That' why it's there.

Absolutely Steve. But if the tabs are not in line according to the Linux situation back in the side of the right side of the left, then all will work perfectly.
