I am running Windows XP & I'm using a Western Digital My Passport portable hard drive to back-up my critical files on. There is a folder which is, in turn, filled with other empty folders, on the back-up hard drive that I want to delete but Windows XP will not let me. It says the file is in use & cannot be deleted.

I have tried booting into Safe Mode in order to go in & delete the folder but that hasn't worked. I have tried using LockHunter & Unlocker to unlock the folder & the additional sub-folders but they have not been able to unlock or delete the folder(s) either.

How can I get rid of this folder? Any other suggestions that I have not tried?

    Thanks!

    http://www.ubuntu.com/download
Just download the file, have it create the DVD, boot up with the DVD (select Try Ubuntu). It will run as a fully functional operating system.

Would that delete my current operating system? Or would my system be dual boot OS then?

Neither. It runs off of the CD/DVD and in RAM.

I haven't had time to try this yet. I will & if it doesn't work, I'll be back.
