I have tried searching the archives here and have done web searches to try and find out why I cannot find a repair tool for internet explorer 6.0

There is lots of reading on 5.0 but not 6.0, I am trying to find this tool in hopes it will speed up my browser and stop it from freezing.

    Thanks

    Hi Bake

Its in the add remove section of the control panel (not sure of win 2000)
When you go to uninstall it you'l get the option to repair,
Post back if more help is needed.

    Hi Bake

Whats not there addremove or ie 6 in addremove .
Open control panel go to tool- folder options -view put check next to display all control panel options and all folder content's,
for good measure scroll down a little an put check next to show hidden folders and files,

Maybe we can just tune up ie 6 instead.

    Lonny: Thanks for the help.

IE is not in my add/remove.

<Open control panel go to tool- folder options -view put check next to display all control panel options and all folder content's,
for good measure scroll down a little an put check next to show hidden folders and files,>

I also do not have 2 of these options:
    1:display all control panel options
    2:all folder content's

I do have the 3rd and it was checked:
    3:show hidden folders and files

I wish I could copy/paste whats in my, control panel/tools/folder options/view, to this post.

    Thanks again
    bake

    Hi Bake

    (not sure of win 2000)

You might have to be loggrd on as administator to be able to change all folder option's and control panel options(all)

Are you sure you've got ie 5.5 or above,I dont think the repair function was available in earlier versions

    >>>I also do not have 2 of these options:
1:display all control panel options and all folder content's

    2:show hidden folders and files<<<
    "Two options"
Ill have to leave this post up to someone who no's win 2000.

    Just thought I'd try

    Good holidays

    hi bake

regarding not being able to find the repair tool in ie6.0... it's a common problem, with ie5, 5.5 and 6.0. i was able to run the tool from the command line by entering the following command:

    rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt "

that command, along with more info, can be found on this microsoft support page .

note: scroll way down near the bottom to find what you need.

please let us know if it works for you.

    :)

    Thanks Mr Mark;
It worked...... well the command line worked but IE still seems flakey, slow and sluggish.

    Thanks again for the help

    hi bake

you know what i did? i rolled back ie6.0 to ie5.5.

i was having a few different issues with 6.0, so in an effort to fix things, i uninstalled 6.0 (first i had tried re-installing it on top of itself, and that did nothing to alleviate the troubles).

when 5.5 was restored, the troubles cleared up. my original intent was to reinstall 6.0 after uninstalling it, but 5.5 was working so good i stayed with it.

you might consider it for your situation, if other remedies have not helped.

    :)
