I have Office 2010 installed on my Windows 8 computer. It does not include OCR, but Office 2003 did include OCR. Is there a way to install OCR from my Office 2003 CD and still use the other apps in Office 2010 that I have already installed?

What if I uninstall 2010, install 2003 and OCR then install 2010 on top of that?

Office 2003 does work on Win 8. I seen it installed on more than one 8 pro and everything works.

"The Microsoft Office application that supports editing of documents which are scanned is known as MODI or Microsoft Office Document Imaging. This was first introduced with Microsoft Office installed in Windows XP and later included in Microsoft Office 2007. In Microsoft Office 2010 it is available as Microsoft Office OneNote 2010. Under the Microsoft OneNote application the OCR functionality is utilized by transferring scanned images onto Microsoft OneNote notebook or a Microsoft Word document which then allows the user to edit and format the extracted information with ease. Steve, thanks for that info. I tested it and it works! Obviously I'm not an expert Office user. Although I've always had it installed on my systems, I only use it on occasion.

Cool. We love stories with happy endings... I think some version of office don't come with One Note. Glad you got lucky.

I've never used One Note before. I think that in Office 2003, OCR was a stand alone program. Do I need to use any particular format? I tested it by saving a png file via the snipping tool.
