Have Netscape version 6 on my system. Until recently when a web site from Netscape was downloaded it simply showed the Netscape window and then downloaded the site. Recently what is happening is the window comes up, then disappears and then the profile identification window comes up. This requires you to choose which profile you want to use. This is an extra step that was not necessary and for some reason is required now. Any suggestions?

    Hi hollinm,

Are you talking about a local HTML file?

If Netscape 6 is asking to create a new Profile each time it is opened:

    Close Netscape
    Disable Quick Launch
Right click on your Netscape Icon
    Select Properties
At the end of the target line add: -P yourprofilename
It should like something like the following, depending on your OS:
    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -P yourprofilename
Note the space between 'exe" and -P'.

If you have multiple Profiles, do this for each Profile.

Post back and let us know if this solves your problem.

I don't want to make any changes unless I am sure we are on the same page.
We already have our profiles set up for Netscape. They have been in existence for some time.
The situation that has developed for some reason is the following:
As an example I get an attachment via e mail and want to download it. It switches to Netscape and the Netscape 6.1 logo comes up. Then that window closes and a dialogue box called Select User Profile. Incuded in the box a window that shows Available Profiles. Our names are listed in that box. We select a profile. Then there is a box at the bottom of the dialogue box that says Start Netscape 6. Click that and the web site is downloaded. It's not really a problem but it never happened until a few days ago and it is an extra step that may not be necessary. Should I still follow your original instructions?

    Hi Hollinm,

I believe we are on the same page, now that I know you are using OE for Mail, and not Netscape. I can't help but wonder if this new problem stems from the Windows profile situation you are dealing with?

To answer your question, the solution above is still the way to prevent the Profile Manager from popping up each time Netscape 6 opens.

You really should give some serious thought to upgrading to Netscape 7.01. Netscape 6 is incredibly obsolete, and full of bugs. There have been many improvements in all areas of the browser since the old Netscape 6, including security and privacy fixes.

    Netscape Version 7

    Ramona:
As suggested in last message I should upgrade to Version 7 which I did.. As you know when a response is received for BBS a message comes up on my OE and includes the url in order to see what you have written. After downloading version 7 and I hightlighted the url so I could see your message the following box came up:
    Windows cannot find netscape 6.exe
Program needed for opening file of type URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol and then this address was at the bottom of the dialogue box.

    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 6

I use IE and OE Version 6 for my day to day stuff but sometimes the system transfers to Netscape automatically to access certain websites. Can you assist:mad:

    hollinm,

Go to this page and install the uninstall-moz.exe. This will return your file associations back to normal. Netscape 6 took over your file associations and that is why you are receiving this messagge.

Please let us know if you continue to have problems.

It worked. Thank you very much for your help. I never would have figured it out on my own.
