This has never happened before. I was always able to move and arrange Icons on the desktop. About a week ago I moved a few to different spots. Now every time I restart the computer the Icons I moved are back to where they were. I haven't changed anything. I just can't get the Icons to stay put. This pertains to about 4 out of 20 that I rearranged. I am running XP pro SP3.

Not on an XP computer right now. This is from Memory. Right click on a blank spot on the destkop, then go to Arrange Icons By and it is one of the two that is in the middle. Somthing about auto arrange and align to grid I think. Try one or the other.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Bill. I went all through those options and they don't solve the problem. Auto Arrange is something else. I'm just trying to group icons and have them stay where I put them. Re-booting always puts them back to the old position. This all started a week ago.

I turned on the computer yesterday and the Icons were in the right place. I thought the problem corrected itself. But that was not the case. Today they were back in the wrong place. I downloaded the Desktop Restore program as recommended. But that doesn't seem to work. After a few re-boots the Icons still move. I really don't feel comfortable playing with the registry so haven't tried that.

I installed the Desktop Restore program. It will allow me to restore my Icons to the desired location. But I have to do this every time I boot the computer. So the problem is not solved, but I can live with this.

I also just tried the Reg-edit suggested in #4. That also did not work. But thanks for trying.

Sorry Doc, I did try it and I still have the same problem.

And Evan, my Vipre anti-virus tells me the the download you suggested is on a potentially harmful site and blocks it. Do you know this site is OK?

    Doc,
Yes, that I can do. Each time I turn on the computer I can right-click and restore the Icons. I was just hoping for a permanent fix so they would stay where I put them.

Its probably a false positive because I wouldn't link to a site that is dangerous. The site is safe to visit.
