A fix for the widely publicized Java vulnerability can be downloaded from the Oracle site.

    Details here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-57...es-software-update-to-fix-java-vulnerability/

Caution: There are numerous files available for download at the Oracle site and it's not perfectly clear which one is the right one. Even after downloading (~90MB for Windows), some instructions for installation aren't very clear. I'd like some clarification before I install anything now.

    Hi All
I did the download and install of the new Java version, in my case Java 7 update 11, and it was verified by the website as all is OK.

It also recommended to uninstall any old version. I tried but it gives me an error:

    Internal Error 2753. regutils.dll

    It will not uninstall.

any advice on how to proceed?

    Thanks
    Sven

Got it even though I keep it disabled unless it is needed. Don't forget to take the check out of the box for the ASK TOOLBAR unless you want it.

I deleted all the old versions before I installed the new one. You may have to delete both the old and new and then install the new one. That worked for me.

Hello. I'm new here so I'm not sure if I am jumping this thread or this is where I ask my Java question. If I am jumping someone's thread, I apologize.

I have Java 7 update 11 but I'm not sure if this is the version with the new security updates or if there is still an update out there that I need.

I was reading this from the Oracle site:

"Oracle has just released Security Alert CVE-2012-0422 to address two vulnerabilities affecting Java in web browsers. These vulnerabilities do not affect Java on servers, Java desktop applications, or embedded Java. The vulnerabilities addressed with this Security Alert are CVE-2013-0422 and CVE-2012-3174. These vulnerabilities, which only affect Oracle Java 7 versions, are both remotely exploitable without authentication and have received a CVSS Base Score of 10.0. Oracle recommends that this Security Alert be applied as soon as possible because these issues may be exploited “in the wild” and some exploits are available in various hacking tools. "

The link I gave above will verify that you have the latest version:

    http://www.java.com/verify/

Yes, Version 7 Update 11 is the latest at this time.

Mine says I have the newest updates and I am not having any problems with Java.

Don't we need Java to run certain things?

I keep mine updated and disabled. It is up to you if you want to do it this way.
