Having problems switching 40gb HD for 80 gb HD. both HD's are pre used and have OS on them.
I am getting a boot up that goes to a blank screen with a little timing tick? top left of screen I have tried 'Del' 'F7' 'F12' and so on and get a warning that the keyboard is not connected properly, but it is because it responds to me trying to get a set up. I also get 'press any key' but it goes to blank screen before I can touch any key.
I have the HD jumper at Master only.
Put the 40Gb back and got the same results as above.
Living in hopes that you can walk me thru this one.

Was the OS install with this exact same machine or another machine with completely different hardware drivers installed?

Hi Spanner. If the computers are different then just switching out the harddrives simply won't work since each computer has certain drivers that makes the hardware work properly. What Windows OS does the computer use?

Right - but aren't you familiar with the term DRIVERS? If the drives came from different computers, Windows has all the wrong drivers installed.

Looks like you have disturbed some connections when switching the drives.

OK, STEVE R JONES, The answer is yes, the question, is how do we get the 'DRIVERS' when we did not have them to start with and the PC's are not running.?

The word that WindowsBBS uses in its introduction is 'HELP' !!!!!!

To PeterC, I will have to check your suggestion out.
    Spanner,

We have success, thanks to the help we received from WindowsBBS staff and members, the change of HD 's from 40gb to 80gb has been successful.
We removed both the HDs from their computers, installed the 80gb in the HP computer booted up via the cd, having inserted the Windows XP cd prior to booting up, the HD was Formatted, and Windows XP installed. a few minor adjustments and we are happy with it.
Our thanks to those who responded to the problem, it turned out to be simpler than at first thought, but that is always the case when you get the right help.
My next task is adding a 250gb HD as slave to an already instaled 80 gb master.
I will mark this as Resolved.
    Thanks again.
