first neither the keyboard or mouse is faulty cuz i can use them on any other machine i have just fine no problems.

i have done them one at a time and the same thing happen doesnt matter what order i do them in or together or what usb port i use or if i use a non dell usb keyboard the same thing happens. i think the machine is haunted about ready to use for target practice.

so you've tried one 'faulty' and one working at same time?

    'faulty' keyboard
    and
    'working' mouse at same time?

and if you have what happens?

The reason i'm asking this is because i thought you could opperate the wizard with the working mouse and then you would be able to install the drivers for the 'faulty' keyboard which would still be plugged in...

no neither work no matter what order i plug them in. keyboard by itself nothing mouse be itself nothing but both give the same wizard message to look for drivers but cant click okay cuz nothing works. no matter what order if at boot plugged in or wait until windows loads and plug them in then nothing works on multiple keyboard and mice the same thing happens.

O.K. so I am just spooling out ideas here but could you (using software or by doing it manually) try to copy over the requred drivers from the XP machine that works with the keyboard and mouse and then put them on the one that doesnt work?

    [Manually]
    From C://>Windows>System32>drivers

and I am looking for freeware driver copying software...

Did you install the chipset drivers etc while you have a working keyboard and mouse?

Does your motherboard support a PS/2 (small - usually green and purple - round connectors) mouse or keyboard? If so, I would try one of those and see if you can then click on the install drivers prompt to see what happens.

I see this as a USB problem and not a keyboard or mouse problem.
