After curing the problem of 'Police Threat' (in another forum) by formating HD. now have problems with reinstalling XP.
Resolution too low and unable to change for some reason. Unable to reinstall Internet because the screen images are too large and cannot click on buttons required to take the installation further because the buttons are off the screen.
I have tried reinstalling XP again but get the same problem, screen images too large. Must somehow reduce (increasing resolution) screen images.
Have tried to find if PC recognises monitor type,( it should do, it recognised it before the formatting) but get nothing highlighted to click on.
Because Monitor was not listed I tried 'Properties' ( in Healp and Support) to see if I could download driver as the 'Help Support' suggested, but need to be online for that
Display shows 640x480 screen resolution and Medium (16 bit) Color quality.that I am unable to alter?.
Stuck at the moment, any ideas?

You'll have to install the driver for the graphics card.

Hi Spanner. Do you know what video card the owner of the PC has? We need to know that information so we can help you install the video driver in order to change the resolution.

Is this a laptop or a desktop computer? Is it an OEM system that has a model number?

You will need to install the motherboard drivers before you do the video card drivers.
You can use Aida32 to identify the motherboard. You do not need to install the software in the usual sense. You will probably need to burn to a CD or DVD to get it onto the problem computer, as I doubt your USB ports are working to use a flash drive.

Plug in a little USB WiFi adapter ($8 with shipping), connect to the 'net and get ALL available Windows Updates.

That usually solves ninety-something percent of the "no driver" problems. The rest you can usually download from the PC or device manufacturer.

Once you get online, here is the driver page so you can download the chipset, video, audio, and network drivers for the Dell Optiplex GX270, OptiPlex GX270 Drivers.

Sceen resolution is now as it should be and all is well, our forum member ( PC owner) is delighted, and thinks I am a brilliant, had to tell him the truth. It was your help that cured the problems after the 'Police Threat' scare. Will mark this Resolved.

You can also use one of those USB WIFI adapters and get on line that way. Then get your drivers and then you should be good to go. USB ports usually are working when you install the OS.
