That is what I would do for sure.

Could also try changing the refresh rate to something else.

You didn't make a mistake - you were just unlucky and received what would appear to be a defective machine.

If you are otherwise happy with it I would return it for exchange or failing that a refund.

If you have to go for a different model the Acer should more than meet your needs - Photoshop which I have used from 5.5 up to CS5 does not require a desperately high spec to run well - when I am on a photo trip abroad I take a netbook to back up my images and also to dabble with PS. Yes, CS5 runs, albeit slowly, on a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor with 2 GB RAM. On the Acer it will fly :)

I'm not a gamer, but the Acer spec looks to be OK - you might check out the min specs for the games you want to run just to be sure.

Note that the Acer comes with Windows 8 - don't be put off by that. I recently bought a laptop with 8 installed and with the addition of a small piece of third party software - Start8 - there are others, it boots directly to the desktop complete with Start Button and can be used just like 7 and the Metro screen is not omnipresent.
