external hard drive access

i used a now forgotten free program on-line to secure an external hard-drive and I am now unable to remember the name, therefore, I can not access my external hard drive.
any suggestions?

 

Doesn't the drive give you any hint at what the program was?

 

no, it just says it is password protected

 

I suppose a lot depends on whether the data is simply password protected or actually encrypted. If its encrypted, then you're probably SOL

If its not encrypted, you might be able to access the data using a Linux system.

 

There is nothing to worry. If data is important opt for a password recovery software and get your access back.
