    New Home group-
Laptop/win7 OS and Desktop/Vista OS. Everything connected including printer, except can't figure out how to add Canon Scanner, currently connected via USB to Vista Desktop. Can I/how do I do that?

    Thanks

Yes-I've installed Scanner Software, and latest drivers on Win 7 laptop.

However, additional research I've done leads me to believe that the problem lies with the scanner being a "USB device ", and that neither Vista, nor Win 7 offers any way to allow them to be seen on both sytems in a Workgroup.

Rather, it seems that I need additional hardware, and/or 3rd party software to do this.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

See the section Installing a network scanner on the page that I linked to in my above post. Obviously, you must set the usb scanner as a shared device on the computer it's connected to, else it won't be detected by Windows 7 as able to be used.

Tony T- I understand, but can't find anyway to designate the scanner as "Shared ", on Vista. The page you linked me to seems to be for Win 7 only.

What I haven't tried is connecting my Vista scanner to my Win 7 Lap Top, installing it and then seeing if I can share it back to Vista.

    I'll try that tomorrow.

    1. Connect scanner to Vista comp.
    2. Go to Start > Network.
    3. If scanner is listed there, rt click > select install. (even though it's already installed, this makes it available for the network)

Then do #3 on Win 7 comp.

If the scanner is not listed in #3 on Vista, you'll need a scanner that supports network sharing.
