(I know, I kow, it wasn't MY choice!)

I'm down in Atlanta and old friends have problems with their computer. I want to give them Adobe reader but can't find a backwards-compatible version for this kludge of an OS.

    Any tips where to look?

Adobe reader isn't OS specific;) You should be able to go to their site and get the latest version.

Or better yet - get Foxit. It's a real lite pdf reader with a fraction of the problems Adobe has.

Watch out for the addons that are already checked. Chrome and Google tool bar. Right there on the first page. Take the check out of the box. It works on everything as far as I know. Have it on all my XP and 7 machines.

Well, I'm not sure just WHAT she did, but when I tried to update it from V(6?) to a later release, it consistently hung. So I tried an old WIN <2K trick and did a 'hard' reboot.... and the update went thru as smooth as Peggy Shippen's back when it restarted.

Thanks to all.... I have also given them FOXIT and a LOT of Malware proggies in a hidden folder so their daughter can go in and fix things once they have (inevitbaly) d/l'd a version of "Angry Jihadists" with nice little trojans attached.

Mr. Bil, your point on reading the splash box is VERY well taken and can never be stressed sufficiently. I HATE "refuse-ware" vendors.
