Buy a new computer now before Windows 8

This is the email blast I sent to friends and family concerning Win8...
    You may disagree...

Time to buy a new computer!

If you are thinking about replacing an older computer, whether it be a desktop or laptop using the Windows operating system, you really need to make the move before the Christmas shopping season is over.
I am going to explain the very good reasons to do so, and I’m going to go into some details to look for in a new purchase.

But if you are seriously thinking about getting an Apple computer, there is no rush for you folks, and you can pretty much disregard this warning I’m about to give you concerning Windows 8.

Bill Gate’s company, Microsoft, makes and sells the Windows Operating system that runs 80% of modern computers.
You are probably running the Windows XP operating system right now, unlike my neighbor Dave, who is still running the Windows 95 operating system.
Many have upgraded to the miserable and sluggish Vista operating system, and if you bought a new computer in the last few years, it is running the smooth and quick Windows 7 operating system.

By the way, the Operating System is entirely different from Windows Word/Powerpoint 2003, Word 2007, Word 2010, or the newest Word 2013. Those are applications, or apps for actually doing some work.

But the evil folks at Microsoft have decided to force upon all new computers, the dreaded Windows 8 operating system.
It is completely foreign to what you know and how you use a computer. It doesn’t even have a Start button to locate your Programs or Files.
They have come up with a cellphone operating system that they want to use for all computers, notepads, touchpads, tablets and cellphones.
Microsoft is feeling the major heat from Google’s Android cellphone operating system and from Apples OS6 system. So they are going to copy those systems, and drop the traditional type of computer operating system you are familiar with.

Windows 8 will be pre-installed on many computers beginning the end of October, and will be the only operating system available on a new computer after Christmas.
And Microsoft has announced they are dropping all support for XP in 2014, a system that came out in 2001.

If your XP computer is running good, keep it in good shape. Or upgrade it to Windows 7 if it’s only a few years old.
But if your old XP computer is 5 years old or so, it is considered an antique by today’s standards, and probably very slow due to older hardware and very little usable memory. And it is probably not upgradable to Win7 due to software driver and hardware issues.

    So, what are your options?

Go buy a new computer. Due to the economy, they are cheap right now.
I like HP, Toshiba, Sony, Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Samsung and Dell. Avoid Gateway.
Get an Intel Processor, not AMD. And get the Intel i3, i5, or i7, not the slow Pentium.
Get 4 GB or 6 GB of memory (4 or 6 gigabytes).
Get a 500 GB (or more) hardrive.
Get Windows 7; Home, Professional, or Ultimate. Home is perfect.
    That’s about it.

If it’s a laptop, get 14 inch or 15 inch display. And they now all have DVD burners, webcams and mics built in so you can video chat with your family on Skype.

Every week, desktops are on sale for about $400, and laptops for about $500.
But for a tight budget, a Pentium or AMD processor is just fine, and probably way faster than that old turd your using now.

For an even tighter budget, Microcenter.com is an official seller of factory authorized refurbished computers. Refurbs are just fine, and in fact, I bought a Compaq 15 inch laptop a few years back for $199, and it has been flawless.

In the future, you should be able to locate refurbished Windows 7 computers for a while.
But I predict that after Win8 has been out for a while, people will demand that new computers be rolled back to Windows 7, just like what happened when Vista came out and people demanded a roll back to XP. But Microsoft has said it will not be possible to roll back Win 8 to Win7 due to it being so completely different.

    Looking at OS Platform Statistics:

    • Close to 25% is running XP
    • Nobody is running Windows 95/98/Me anymore (less than 1% anyway)
    • Vista has less than 7%

    How evil of them!

Wrong! Microsoft will allow users of Windows 8 Pro to downgrade their new PCs to Windows 7 (or even Vista - but who would want that?)

As things are known at this point, unless Microsoft changes policies, OEMs will be able to offer new Windows 8 Pro PCs that are downgraded to (for example) Windows 7 Professional. Computer makers will also be able to continue to sell Windows 7-powered PCs for up to two years after the debut of Windows 8 (so until late Oct. 2014).

About time! Xp will be 13 years old at that time.

My 2007 laptop (originally Vista) runs Windows 7 better then it did Vista, and runs Windows 8 about the same (or slightly better) then Windows 7.

    It only has a 2GHz Core 2 (T7200) CPU & 3GB RAM.

Again, BS, as I have posted above. The hardware requirements for Windows 8 are the same as for Windows 7. You can't "roll back" any OS. You can install a new OS using your downgrade right, but make sure you have the correct version (Windows 8 Pro) which includes the downgrade right.

Well if the folks at Microsoft are evil, what's stopping you from going the open way ? Why not Linux ?

My Opinion on Reviewing Version of Windows:

    Windows 3.x/95/98
Too old for me. It's user interface looks bored, and easily crash if you input C:\con\con in Run.

    Windows NT/2000/ME
It has improved from it's predecessor, but it still cause problems while upgrading from an older system. It has changes in it's directory too, so it will be confusing if you are used to those old systems.

    Windows XP
The best OS ever!! Rarely causes unnecessary crashes, and it has low system requirements. I have been using this from 2002 till now :) Most people use this because it's user interface is much more friendly than previous ones, it has accessibility options too for the diasbled. What I don't like is just the error dialog box and it's sound (A very dramatic 'BOOM!') which scares me often, during silent midnight.

    Windows Vista
Very less people used this as it is incompatible with a lot of softwares from WinXP, and it causes crashes too. But I'm impressed with it's UI, which is Aero View. For me, it's more suitable for Vista for home use only.

    Windows 7
An improved system from Windows Vista. I'm a die-hard fan for Windows 7. Overall I like this OS (Now I'm using Windows 7) It's just that I need to get used with it's interface as got used with WinXP.

    Windows 8
The recent OS from Microsoft. When I first looked at it's interface, IS THIS WINDOWS??!! It makes me to hate this when I looked at it from 1st impression. What the heck is this!!?? A complicated Start Menu with totally useless apps installed with it!? Hey, no one is going to understand what is this anyway. Microsoft said it is meant for Tablets and Touch-screen phones, but would you choose this complicated yet ugly-looking Windows 8 or just a simple Android?? Why is Windows trying to abandon the traditional PC-looking style and go with this??

In a nutshell, if you want to buy a new computer, I would suggest a PC with Win7 installed, but if you are unlucky to get a Windoze 8, downgrade it to have a better experience using the computer (Windows 7 system requirements is as same as Windows 8)
