Resolved Translators to get .docx readble on Word03

Being a stingy old bastard, I'm still running Office 03 under WindowsXP. Occasionally, friends richer than I send Word documents from either Word 07 or Word10 that are ".docx" format and I can't read them.

I tried one supposed "translator" from a Google search which loaded so much other software, it was ridiculous. It took about 4 hours of work before I got rid of all that rubbish.

Can anyone recommend a freeware translator to convert .docx to .doc that won't fill my computer with a lot of extraneous junk? Yeah, I know, I should update to Win7 and Office2010, but my miserly character gets in the way of spending several hundred dollars.

I've tried telling the people that send .docx files that I can't read them, but nobody seems to take me seriously.

BTW, a search of the archives for "docx translator" got several hundred hits which had absolutely nothing to do with the question and none that addressed it.
