I understand all that, and many Intels toggle down - as do almost all mobile CPUs. But I don't recall Speccy reporting individual cores that way, unless the bus speed had been slowed for some reason.

Then during those times, Speccy should report full speed. Does it?

    Is that a notebook?

What does CPU-Z say for Core Speed? I note for my i7, it only reports on the first core, Core 0 and reports full speed. If I right-click on Computer and select properties, it says full speed.

Yes it does. If I am running a multithreaded application then the clock speed stays at 2.7 GHz until I close the application.

    No its a desktop machine.

Same as Speccy. If I have CPU-Z open and then launch IE9 for example I can see the CPU clock speed jump from 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz automatically and then a few seconds later it drops back down to 800 MHz. I don't notice any slowdowns/lag at all when this happens so this feature is not hurting the performance of my system at all.

In the System Properties window my CPU is reported at being 2.7 GHz.

Okay. Cool. Thanks. BTW, I would not expect any slowdowns or lags either. After all, the CPU can go from 0% utilization to 100% in just one or two clock cycles. And with nearly 3 billion clock cycles every second, I think you would have a hard time noticing any lag or slowdown. ;)

@Tom F - We now return you to your regularly scheduled program! ;)

I didn't mean for this thread to get so off topic but we had a pretty good conversation.

@ Tom, if you don't have any more questions then I think we can mark this thread as 'Resolved'.

    Your Welcome. :)

I am glad we gave you some new information that you could use with monitoring your computers temperature. I certainly learned some new things too. :D

    Thanks for the update.
