I'm aware that Malwarebytes is a well-respected malware scanner and removal tool. I keep it up to date once a month on both my desktop and my wife's netbook. I try to run it about once every 6 weeks or so.

My question is "Why does the scan take so long?" I started a scan on the netbook at about 21:30 yesterday and it was still running at 07:00 this morning. It finally finished after 9 hours and 54 minutes. Is this typical, even on a relatively small computer?

I don't have any data on how long it takes on my desktop, but it's usually an overnght exercise also.

Can Malwarebytes run in background while you're running your regular programs, particularly IE or Chrome and resident software like Quicken?

    How long depends on:
    1. The speed of your computer

    2. Which Scanner option you use:

      • Perform quick Scan
      • Perform Full Scan
      • Perform Flash scan (Pro version only)

    3. How many items it ended up having to scan.
To give you something to compare to, here on a Dell Vostro 260 with a 3.1GHz Intel Core i5-2400, 8 GB of RAM, a 180 GB Intel 330 series SSD, and running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, it took MalwareBytes exactly 7 minutes, 42 seconds to do a Full Scan on 323,191 objects.

I'll see what happens next time, and re-open with specific data. Thanks, Doc.
