The one showing the list you posted in post #16 or something else?

I found this on the Gateway site - it is generic, but may be helpful .....

    Replacing the Power Supply

I appreciate the time you took to prepare the photos, but in all honesty they don't help any.

The only further thought I have had is that Gateway may well have used a specialised PSU in that computer, along with a specialised motherboard - this was common practice among a few manufacturers a few years ago. The replacement PSU may not be suitable.

As I posted earlier your best bet is to replace the original PSU and I hope you made a note of what plugged into what.

I think you have bitten off more than you can chew in this exercise and are in over your head and just hope that refitting the old PSU resolves the boot issue.

lol yup.. I already replaced it... still same issue, I didn't take a note of it.. good advice for next time.. yumm can't hurt to keep trying different combinition of connection with the power cords? as long as they fit together? I think I might see if i can boot from a disc.

Any xp disc should work correct?

Are you sure that the PSU is good? I know it is new, but I have had new things that were bad more than once.

I think that is your best bet - very difficult to help at distance with a problem of this sort :)

Keep us posted on the outcome.

Lol, Yup our local computer guy wants 65 bucks to diagnose...

Petec do you think that I can just use a windows Xp disc? If so, then can I use any xp disc and use his code from the back of the computer?

Thanks for all your help guys

According to the url I posted earlier the Gateway has a Recovery Partition - researching further I found this statement on another forum .....
I would give that a try.

I'm not sure that a Repair install of XP would work using another XP CD as the OS on the Gateway is almost certainly OEM which will be different from a retail CD.

If you want to try a repair install you must use an XP install CD at the same Service Pack level as the installed OS i.e. if the Gateway has XP SP3 you must us an XP SP3 install CD.

If the XP CD that you have access to does not have the appropriate Service Pack incorporated in it you will need to create a slipstreamed CD which includes the Service pack. This can only be done with a retail XP CD>

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

If you try to reinstall XP from a borrowed install CD by first formatting the drive the OS may or may not install, but the code will be tied into the original installation of OEM XP and you will be unlikely to be able to activate it.
