One Touch 7600 USB Running on Win98 Gateway

I am having a problem with my Visioneer Paper Port software. When I scan something, I get the message below:
Can Not Load Application Component File GEAR32PD.DLL

I went on the Visioneer web site and put in a search and got the following:

    ---------------------------

    Visioneer TechNote

    Technical Document #: 2072

Platform: Windows Software Version: PaperPort 6.x

    * Can Not Load Application Component File GEAR32PD.DLL Message

    ---------------------------------
The error that refers to the GEAR32PD.DLL is caused by a mismatch of a couple of files, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the links or export features of PaperPort.
Currently Visioneer does not have a resolution for this problem.

    ------------------------------

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Paper Port and it still doesn't work. -Sue

-Also a couple of weeks ago I installed some updates and this is one of the things that I installed:

    115. Viewer.exe Visioneer Viewer 1, 0, 0, 1
    C:\Program Files\Visioneer\PaperPort\Viewer.exe
Could this be causing the problem?

dmorse03--How long have you had the scanner? If there is any chance of returning it or having your charge card refuse payment, I would try it. Have a copy of that message from Visioneer Tech Support as backup. I do not know the warranty period from Visioneer. Check that.
Have you tried phoning them? Visioneer should certainly recognize their response will not allow the scanner to function in the manner implied when you bought it.
What actually happens when you scan? Can you get the image to the PaperPort Desktop at least? As a work around you then should to able to manually open the .max file in other applications if the drag and drop functions do not work.

This is my daughter's machine. The scanner works OK but she can only save as .bmp.. Apparently the conversion and editing software to the culprit. I found a patch here. Will wait and see if it fixes the problem.

dmorse03--Interesting site you found. Hope you found igfix001.exe and that it works. Yes, please let us know.
I presume she and you followed Visioneer's installation instructions which say not to connect the USB cable until you have installed the software and you get a little screen telling you to make the connnection.
    Good luck!!
I also live at the base of the Sandias, in Sandia Heights.
