I recently had a cowork ask me to put an extra fan into his older computer. He currently has one in the computer. Can I just solider into the connector for the original fan for power? Or is there a something specific I should be looking for?

Specific details to follow regarding computer specs and extra fan type.

There is often a power socket for an additional fan on the motherboard - you will need to get hold of the motherboard manual to check.

I would NOT solder into the connector as you suggest - the power drain on the motherboard fan power supply may well exceed the rated spec.

An alternative would be to use a spare molex connector on the power supply, if one exists, and connect the fan to that.

You do not mention what part of the computer, requires additional cooling. Secondly, you require to find a suitable part inside the casing to properly anchor the proposed second fan. If fan (2) wires have suitable pins soldered that will fit into the molex connector.

I wouldn't mind a case like the guy has in your 2nd link SpywareDr.
I think he might have been restricted with movement due to that static earth strap keeping him in check.:D
His voice over was poor by comparison with the first guy. Neil.

ok so, the wife actually let me get work done today. I see that my co-work actually got a supply unit.

The model of the comp is Lx6810 gateway. I don't know what he was trying to get me to do. I thought I was going to install a fan.

ok I got home and started working. Everything is all together now, but when I set the computer to run it shows I get the boot menu then it says to

Reboot and Select the proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.

does this mean I need to go into the boot menu and see what is in there.

another problem I'm going to have is the only keyboard I have is a wireless keyboard that doesn't seem to connect.

Changing the power supply, given that the PSU is compatible, should not alter the boot sequence. I suspect that in changing the PSU you have inadvertently knocked some on the internal connectors.

Check that all the connectors to the motherboard, hard drive(s), etc are properly seated and try again.

If you get the same message on boot you will need to check the boot order - generally CD ROM drive > Hard drive > other if shown.

I think you will need to borrow a USB or PS/2 keyboard to be able to change the boot menu. I use a wired keyboard so cannot comment definitively here.

    You've lost me there :)

    Where are you seeing that?

If you go back to the original power supply does the same behaviour occur?
