My PC's original & only internal hard drive was failing & couldn\'t be cloned according to Paragon Partition Manager, so I bought a new hard drive. However, Windows XP installed itself on the K drive, not the C drive & Windows XP does not recognize my Ethernet card (so I cannot connect to the internet), my sound card, my video card, & one other item . The C drive is now assigned to one of my card reader slots. How do I fix this? Do I have to reinstall Windows XP and, if I do, will I have to go into the case & disconnect my card reader & then do the install since it is an internal card reader?

    Thank you.

Yes, you cannot change the drive letter of the drive on which Windows is installed. I think your problem arose from the fact that the card reader was installed and Windows took the next available drive letter which happened to be K.

Disconnect the card reader and any external storage devices plugged into USB ports and try again and make a clean install with format.

Also, under Device Manager, it is not recognizing my ethernet controller, my multimedia audio controller, my SM bus controller (not sure what this is), & my video controller. Will these problems be solved upon reinstallation?

Whenever you make a clean install you must install the chipset and other drivers - XP does not contain these drivers which should be available on the motherboard (Biostar) and graphics card (nVidia) manufacturer's web sites.

If the ethernet is built into the motherboard the driver should be on the Biostar site - if it is a plug in card a visit to the manufacturer's web site is in order - Device Manager should be showing you the make/model no. of the card.

Yes - the motherboard CD should include all the drivers necessary - they may not be the latest, but likely those you have been running with.

Your graphics card driver can be obtained from nVidia .....

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Select Option 2 and allow the site to scan for Graphics Drivers for your card.
