I have been using MSE for a couple of years now & there have been rumours about it not always cutting the mustard at detecting drive-by/buffer overflow threats & the like.

Has anyone had a butcher's hook at these results from MRG Effitas?

Should I worry about these results?

Note that there is no single, one size fits all, perfect anti-malicious-software solution.

It's a never-ending battle between the good-guys and the bad. The bad guys are constantly trying to find a way through your defenses so they can steal all your stuff and the good guys are patching holes as fast as they can to try and help you keep them out.

Yes, I know. But it does seem that (according to these tests) MSE is not exactly top of the class. Mind you, I don't think that it tests the freeware version of avast! & most of the others are also vendor versions. If that means anything I suppose. My personal philosophy with anti-malicious-software is to employ a light AV with browser hardening. A good on-demand scanner doesn't hurt either.

So far, I've been fine (touch wood). ;)
