    Hello
I am trying to get a computer to work for my grandkids to play games on.
The computer I am working on is a HP873n. When I turn it on it gives me a message that the system fan is not working and to replace the fan. I bought a new fan at CompUSA and installed it and I am getting the same message.

When I Googled this it said to upgrade the BIOS but that is hard to do when the computer shuts down in 5 secs.

Does anyone have a answer for this? Also is the fan supposed to blow air in or out?

The cpu fan should blow out... Maybe its time to replace the thermal paste on the cpu.

The fan is not mounted on top of the cpu it is in a plastic housing with a duct going to the rear of the computer. I can hardly feel the air blowing when the fan is on.

I read on Google that some of these computers had a place in the BIOS .....On the Advance tab and then select Hardware monitor to disable the fan option.
I went into the BIOS under the Advance tab but there is no hardware option.

I replaced the thermal compound on the cpu.

Have you checked that power is present at fan connection or that a good connection is made between fan and mother board.

You say fan is running! with power from the computer? or running from an outside power supply outwith the computer?

The problem is not solved. Please read the original post.
When I boot the computer up it gives me a message that the fan is not working and to replace the fan. I replaced the fan and I am still getting the same message.

Anyone know the answer to this???????
