I Just replaced my Bestec PSU with a Hercules 300w unit. Everything was go just fine until I got ready to connect the one last cable into the 3 pin socket on the motherboard. The old supply had a 3 pin connector with 3 wires black-green-black on the Power supply connector. The problem is that the new power supply has a 4 pin connector with 4 wires blue-black-black-yellow on the supply power connector. I am not sure which 3 of the 4 wines should should be connected. No instructions are with the new power supply. Should the connector can only go on one way, but I am not sure which end wire should be connected, the yellow or blue with the two black wires. Any thoughts? I can always go pot luck and cross my fingers.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Connectors should be shaped to only allow connection correctly.

    Wire colours can vary.

If the connector fits comfortably, it should be correct.

You should consider the difference between OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers, like Dell, HP, Gateway, etc) compared to what you buy yourself.

Early last year, I had to replace my original PSU installed by HP maker of my computer. New PSU wiring and connectors were different to the original PSU. Maplins supplied a set of converted wiring/connectors to suit my HP circuitry.
