not sure if this is where this should be posted other than it is a vista machine.

client brought machine to me because no matter what sites she went to she kept getting certificate errors or expired messages. when i went thru the machine hooked up to my system i got none of those errors and i went to the same sites she was going to and logged in with her ids and still machine worked perfectly on my network but at her connection pow problems.

my feeling either the printer or her dsl box causing this to happen. any thoughts would be appreciated.

that does make sense never thought of that. when i first got the machine i noticed the date was i think 2032 i set it correctly and probably why i never had the problems my client had.

what would set the time that far in the future ??? doesnt sound like the cmos batter if it was bad usually its the other way where it doesnt keep any date time info at all.

Virus would be one of the first things that I would think of.

Never seen a CMOS battery go ahead. Like you say, backwards and most that I have seen go back to 2000.

dont think its the cmos battery. when that battery is dying it doesnt hold the information ive never seen or heard of a battery resetting the clock up to 2032.

im wondering if for some reason the dsl box has a date defined in it that might be resetting the computer to match the dsl box.

I pretty much know how batteries work too. Thus the reason to point out how cheap they are.

    1) Pop the battery out and then back in- what date does it show.

    2) Disconnect the dsl box before starting the machine - check the date.

Yes I know that... But I'm guessing it's the battery:)

I agree with the testing of the batter to a certain extent. No load is different than one with a load on it. Been there done that years ago. Showed the proper volts when out of the PC, but then when replace still had problems. Put a new one in and everything was fine.
