Resolved Question on deleting an email from server

    I have Windows mail on both my desktop amd my laptop. When I am on either system and delete an email shouldn't it automatically be deleted on the other pc? It doesn't seem to be doing that. I have set the rules to not keep a copy on the server in account settings on both pc's....one is running xp and the other is Vista. Thanks

    I use a different e-mail client, but that shouldn't make a difference on this issue.

    If both computers are running and on-line, all e-mails will arrive and be received by both computers. You will have to delete any unwanted messages from each computer. On the other hand, if your desktop, say, is running but your laptop is off, then messages will be received only by the desktop. Deleting unwanted ones will remove them from your desktop as well as from the server, so the laptop will never receive them.

    That's my understanding of it, anyway.

    POP3 accounts store mail on each local machine.

    IMAP accounts store the info on the server.

    Sounds like Bobbo was almost talking about a combo of the two methods.

    There is an option in Account settings-> "Delete from Server when deleted from local deleted folder." It might help to enable that.

    In theory it should be in the same location as the Leave Mail on Server option.

    Tools > Accounts, select your account & click the Properties button. The options you are looking for are at the bottom of the Advanced tab.

    But the option is Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' and only available if you have Leave a copy of messages on server.
