    Hi Everyone,

I have 69 hotfixinstaller.exe files on my Local Disk (C) with most of them taking up 3.3MB and some as much as 23 or 28MB. They date back from 2008 to the present month with most dated in 2010. They don't have names but rather have. numbers and letters

Can anyone advise if these files are needed? or if I can delete them to free up "alot" of space?

Use the above tool to delete XP specific update uninstallers.
BTW, do not manually delete files or folders located in the C:\Windows\$hf_mig$ folder. Those are backups of the new updated files, to be used by Windows File Protection to replace any corrupted files in the future.

    RE: Remove Hotfix Backup Files

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for your response to my plea for help. I have a question or 2. I reviewed the link and want to know where it says to download to my hard drive, does that mean that I can save it to my desk top or to a specific location like My Documents or to a particular folder? And, do you know if I can target older back up files or does it just remove all the back up files. I don't believe I will need the older back-up files since I'm not having issues, that I know of, with regards to the back-up files.

    Thanks Again, in advance:)

If your not having any issues with your current setup then open explorer and select the folders and press delete there is no real need for them if things are running fine other than if you use system restore to go back to a time when the hotfix hadn't been installed

You can save the file to where ever you want. It doesn't need to be installed to work.
This free version of this tool doesn't allow selections of what it deletes, it just picks the old update backups for XP.
Updates to .Net and Internet Explorer are left alone.
