I looked through the search function, but couldn't find a post on my exact problem, if I missed one I appologize, and I would be happy to read it, if someone would kindly direct me to the thread.

I recently did a complete reinstall of XP, and now I can't seem to get any kind of network recognition. The device manager shows an icon for the 1394 network adapter, but the SM Bus Controller, PCI device, and Other PCI Bridge Devices all have yellow ?! marks next to them. I assume I'm dealing with a driver issue, but after quite a while of looking on the internet, I haven't been able to understand what I'm supposed to look for. If I plug in an ethernet cable, my desktop doesn't detect anything.

What should I be looking for to identify my network adapter and it's needed drivers, and how how should I go about getting the necessary drivers, if that is the problem? I have a Vista laptop in the living room, so I do at least have acess to the internet.

Is this on board NIC or an add on card? Go to the manufacture of the board or the add on NIC card and get the driver. You can download them to a thumb drive or CD/DVD and go from there.

If you made a fresh install with format you need to install all the chipset drivers which you should find at Abit, not just the NIC driver.

Agree with Pete, just thought I add on to this that on several occasions in the past re-installing XP, for reasons unknown to me I had to actually install a NIC card before I was able to get back on the net.
