am using Tbird 14.0 Recently I am losing mail from my inbox. I do not have delete mail option engaged. This has happened twice this week, most recently when I opened the program tonight to check my mail. it is not in the trash folder nor is it being archived. It is also being removed from the server. Why is this happening?

Not that i was aware of, however, the trash folder on the server had lots of deleted messages. I dumped them all so if that was the problem it should be solved. let's see what happens and thanks for the reply.

When you say "losing mail" what do you mean, exactly? All of it, or just some? If you lose the entire contents of the Inbox, it could be a case of overactive AntiVirus program. I am not sure if the AV can delete only part of the mail.
Secondly, is the mail removed from the server, or from the Inbox, only? you can tell by looking at your mail at the mail program website.
Finally, do you, periodically Compact your folders, or have them compacting by setting up you mail. If you don't compact your folders after deletion, you will, still, havemail a ssociated with your folders, in the background.

hi Westside - Yes I lose whatever is in the inbox at the time. So it probably isn't related to the antivirus program which allowed the mail into the inbox to begin with. Yes it also disappears from the server, which got me thinking about overloading - I have 100 megabytes of storage with my provider, but don't seem to get an alarm when I'm reaching capacity. I need to check that out After I delete mail from a folder I usually compact. I think the problem was that my Trash folder on the server took up all my space. Evidently trash counts until I physically empty that file on the server as well.

I make a point of moving any mail which belongs to a special category in a separate folder. I have almost a dozen folders, and Inbox subfolders, and seven different accounts (each one has the same storage limit). Only one account has more than 10 MB in its Inbox, although one folder has way over 100 MB.
My provider does not care about mail which has, already, been downloaded. Only about mail in the Inbox, downloaded or not. As for my Trash, I have TB set up to dump all mail on closing. It is not necessary to compact the Trash folder.
I think that the more mail is stored, the lazier one gets. I know, for a fact, that I, never, look at folders, which some inconsequential mail from ten years ago.

Good point. Matter of fact I've rethought my entire email situation and have come to the conclusion I need to save less and dump more!!
