Hi. My wife uses an ancient Compaq laptop. Recently the keyboard gave out, and rather than spend megabucks on a replacement for a machine near the end of its useful life, I bought a cheap (but quite satisfactory) USB keyboard. It has the usual extra buttons like internet, email, volume, etc. The email button however launches Outlook, which she doesn't use at all. How can I find out (in the registry, I assume) where that button is mapped to Outlook.exe and re-map it to Hotmail?

Outlook may be set as the default e-mail client. What OS is she using?

Hi Mr Bill, and thanks for input.
Using XP Home SP3. Where might the default e-mail client be set?

Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. Click Programs tab and select your email client from the drop-down list. Once selected, click OK button and close the dialog.

Darn, but that was easy! I feel stupid - I'd never seen that particular option before, and it worked (even though I use Chrome as my default browser). Many thanks.

Control Panel > Keyboard > Key Settings

Edit - you posted while I was typing :)

Hi Pete - thanks for chiming in. In fact (I should have said) I tried CP > Keyboard as one of the first tries, but there are no such options. Maybe because this is XP and not W7, or maybe because this unbranded keyboard has no software/drivers, just PnP.

Yes - probably a function of MS Intellitype software.
